Here's what I mean.
Every sewing project requires a different stitch tension. The thicker the layers the more tension needed to pull the thread through the fabric. The thinner the layers the less tension required.
One of the most common mistakes made by sewers is that the tension for the stitch is too tight. You may have thought there's no harm in being picky about this, but if you have a project that requires your fabric to lay or hang smooth, then you don't want to mess this up. Having too tight of a tension can cause your fabric to gather slightly over time... skew... causing undesirable results.
You may not even notice this is happening. But when you hang your drapery and it just seems to twist funny... first try pressing... then try resewing the side seams. But this time, lower the tension on the stitch.
But wait, there's one more thing you need to do to ensure you have a nice smooth seam. And hardly anyone tells you this very important detail....
